Axel Beckmerhagen is European Counsel in Sullivan & Cromwell’s London office whose practice focuses on German and European competition law.

Prior to joining Sullivan & Cromwell in 2007, Mr. Beckmerhagen worked for Hengeler Mueller in Düsseldorf (Germany) for several years.

  • Technicolor in the EU Commission’s TV and Computer Monitor Tubes cartel investigation
  • Iveco in the EU Commission’s Trucks cartel investigation
  • Diebold, Inc. on its acquisition of Wincor Nixdorf AG;
  • Deutsche Wohnen AG on its attempted voluntary public tender offer to acquire all outstanding shares of LEG Immobilien AG;
  • Deutsche Annington (now Vonovia) on its takeover of GAGFAH;
  • Alcatel-Lucent on its intended combination with Nokia;
  • ZF Friedrichshafen AG on its acquisition of TRW Automotive Holdings Corp;
  • Novaled on its acquisition by Samsung/Cheil Industries;
  • Priceline on its acquisition of Kayak;
  • Cytec Industries on the sale of its coating resins business to Advent International;
  • CPTN Holdings (a Microsoft-led consortium) on competition matters relating to its acquisition of patents and patent applications from Novell;

In addition to advising on merger control, he also has advised in cartel investigations by the EU Commission and the German Bundeskartellamt.
