Frank Aquila, S&C’s global head of M&A, and Melissa Sawyer, co-head of the Firm’s Corporate Governance practice, joined The Deal’s 2021 Shareholder Activism Seminar. In this first of three excerpts from the event, Frank and Melissa discuss the rising importance of diversity in board governance and the biggest challenges in establishing diverse boards. They also explore how board diversity has become a focus of recent activist efforts.

S&C regularly advises boards on fiduciary duties and best practices for overseeing corporate purpose, sustainability and ESG matters. We also advise on board committee structures and agendas and respond to shareholder proposals related to ESG.
