Yesterday’s suit seeking to block the proposed merger of Aon and Willis Towers Watson highlights the complications in successfully piloting a multinational merger requiring significant divestitures. Although on some level an unsurprising result given the potential reduction of what is known in the industry as the “Big Three” to two, the DoJ’s complaint nevertheless serves to highlight three important points.
