S&C Partner Vanessa Blackmore and Practice Area Associate Matthew Triggs co-authored the UK Chapter of Lexology’s In-Depth: Shareholder Rights And Activism (formerly The Shareholder Rights and Activism Review), a global reference guide that provides a summary of the legal framework and emerging trends of shareholder activism across various international jurisdictions.
The chapter outlines updates to the legal and regulatory framework across the global activism sector involving UK targets. The authors provide an overview of key trends from the past year, including a broadening of the types of shareholders involved in activism, increased scrutiny of large companies and company performance, and an uptick in the number of campaigns focused on strategy and operations and the location of companies’ listings. They also discuss recent shareholder activism campaigns and offer an outlook on potential changes for the year ahead.
