S&C partners Garrard Beeney and Renata Hesse, Co-Heads of the Firm’s Intellectual Property and Antitrust Groups, respectively, co-authored the United States chapter in the fourth edition of The Intellectual Property and Antitrust Review. This volume is designed to provide an annual overview of important legal issues affecting the intersection of intellectual property and antitrust law. Published in August 2019, the chapter provides an overview of antitrust and IP developments during the 2018 calendar year and provides insight into what these developments may mean going forward. “The 2018 calendar year was a busy one for both the courts and the Agencies with respect to antitrust and IP matters,” the authors write, adding that the year saw “continued policy changes regarding IP antitrust enforcement at the DOJ and FTC.” Garrard and Renata also note the global trend in recent years “towards harmonisation of competition laws as they are applied to IP” has continued.
