Frank Aquila, Senior M&A Partner at S&C and Contributing Editor to the Chambers Corporate M&A Guide, authored the introduction to the 2025 edition of Chambers Global Practice Guide: Corporate M&A. In his introduction, Frank reviews M&A activity trends in 2024 and shares his expectations for 2025.
He highlights the bounce-back in M&A activity seen throughout 2024 despite uncertainty in the markets, and favorable trends supporting M&A activity in 2025. Frank also examines regulatory changes, geopolitical dynamics and trade wars putting pressure on the dealmaking environment.
“On balance, the factors in favour of M&A in 2025 appear to outweigh the headwinds for an expected active year for M&A spanning [private equity], strategic, domestic and cross-border deals,” he writes. “Although the year has had a slow start for deal making, it is still far too early to consider 2025 a failure – only time will tell whether optimistic expectations align with the reality for M&A activity.”
