Senior M&A Partner Frank Aquila and Global Head of M&A Melissa Sawyer co-authored the article “Twisters: A Whirlwind Year of M&A in 2024 and What to Expect in 2025” for the January 2025 edition of The M&A Lawyer. Frank and Melissa explored 2024’s bounce-back from the previous two years and trend towards mega-deals, and expectations for a continued surge in 2025. They also offered detail around impactful trends and events, including the intensification of antitrust scrutiny, Delaware decisions and amendments, and geopolitical relations.
In discussing the transactions seen throughout 2024, the authors noted that successes were not without challenges. “Although the first 11 months of 2024 included a marked increase in M&A activity as compared to the same period in 2023, the year was nevertheless characterized by uncertainty in the market in the shadow of the 2024 presidential election, strict governmental regulations and enforcement, regulatory changes, and shifts in Delaware law and jurisprudence.”
