Frank Aquila, Senior M&A Partner at S&C and Contributing Editor to the Chambers Corporate M&A Guide, authored the introduction to the 2024 edition of Chambers Global Practice Guide: Corporate M&A. In his introduction, Frank reviews M&A activity trends in 2023 and expectations around the 2024 M&A markets.
He offers insights into the factors in favor of M&A looking into 2024 such as a backlog in private equity, energy consolidation and cross-border opportunities, as well as anticipated headwinds. Frank also examines other trends, including increased regulatory scrutiny of mergers on competition and foreign investment grounds, as well as inflationary pressures and high interest rates.
“Stabilised rates and the expected loosening of monetary policy later this year will help support a recovery in M&A, although expectations of low growth, increased merger control and ongoing geopolitical conflicts will continue to dampen M&A activity in 2024,” Frank writes.
