Sharon Cohen Levin, Matthew Goodman, Leslie Arffa and Sheeva Nesva authored an article in Bloomberg Law on the disconnect between state and federal marijuana laws. Although possessing and distributing marijuana is still a criminal offense under federal law, more than 75 percent of U.S. states permit medicinal marijuana use, and many states and the District of Columbia permit recreational marijuana use. The authors note that until Congress takes clear action to resolve these inconsistencies, the growth of the marijuana industry will cause legal complications for individuals, small businesses and multinational corporations, even outside of the marijuana industry.
