Frank Aquila Speaks to Bloomberg Law on M&A Surge

July 9, 2021

Frank Aquila was interviewed by Bloomberg Law about the record level of M&A activity in the first half of 2021, what is driving the surge, and what to expect going forward.

Frank attributed the strong pace of M&A activity in part to pent-up demand from companies waiting to learn the business implications of the pandemic. “Many of these transactions were born out of what companies saw during the course of 2020 when businesses had to reassess what their priorities were,” Frank said, adding that companies are continuing to make adjustments, including shedding non-core businesses and divisions, and making acquisitions in areas where the pandemic exposed weakness. Looking ahead to the rest of the year, Frank sees M&A activity continuing at a high volume: “It does have the feel that this is just the beginning of it,” he said.

S&C ranked among the top three firms in Bloomberg's global M&A league tables, with $218.3 billion in deals as principal adviser in the first half of the year.
