Frank Aquila Interviewed by Barron’s on Shift in M&A ActivityApril 20, 2020
Frank Aquila, S&C's global head of M&A, was interviewed by Barron's in a recent article on the impact of the coronavirus crisis on M&A and the increasing importance of liquidity.
“What is happening depends on the particular facts and circumstances,” Frank told Barron's. “Deals that are between signing and closing are moving along and almost all of them will close. Some deals that were close to signing continue to move forward, most of these slowing down, but still moving forward. Many deals that were in the early stages have been put on hold, many will eventually get done but some will inevitably die.”
Frank also pointed out that difficulties in conducting due diligence on potential targets is contributing to a slowdown in M&A, although some of those problems are surmountable because much of the necessary diligence can now be done virtually, either with virtual data rooms or video calls.
