On May 14, Nicky Friedlander, a partner of the Firm’s Criminal Defense & Investigations Group and co-head of the Cybersecurity practice, participated in the New York City Bar Association’s Kickoff Reception for the 8th Annual White Collar Crime Institute. Nicky interviewed the General Counsel of Goldman Sachs, and S&C alum, Karen Seymour, about her role as General Counsel, her impactful federal government service and the experience of women in the legal profession, among other topics. S&C proudly sponsored the event.

Held annually, the New York City Bar’s White Collar Crime Institute is a full-day program exploring critical developments in the field of white collar criminal enforcement. The Institute’s panels featured senior government officials, top practitioners in the field and members of the media.

Nicky’s practice focuses on white-collar criminal defense, regulatory enforcement proceedings and internal investigations. She has particular expertise in fraud, anti-money laundering, tax and cybercrime matters. She also advises major U.S. corporations in all aspects of cybersecurity planning and incident response. Nicky previously served as a federal prosecutor in Manhattan, where she was Chief of the Complex Frauds and Cybercrime Unit. In that role, she led major prosecutions of offshore banks for facilitating tax evasion, secured one of the largest-ever FCPA resolutions and conducted the successful investigation of the largest-ever theft of customer data at a U.S. financial institution, among other cases. In 2013, the FBI named Nicky’s prosecution of the creator of Gozi malware, which compromised bank accounts worldwide, as one of its top 10 cases of the year.
