On November 16, Donald Crawshaw spoke on a panel titled “Current Issues in Investment Management” as part of the American Bar Association Business Law Section Fall Meeting, which took place in Washington, D.C. The panelists discussed a variety of recent developments and “hot topics” in the investment management area, including the Division’s fund director outreach initiative and its efforts to “recalibrate” fund director duties in light of, among other things, market developments and the fund chief compliance officer rule; current and planned SEC rulemaking initiatives including those relating to standards of conduct, exchange traded funds, the advertising and cash solicitation rules applicable to investment advisers and a reproposal of previously proposed rules relating to investment company use of derivatives; and recent market developments including regarding blockchain, digital currencies and “smart” indices.
