Eric Kadel and Jamie Earl were featured speakers at the American Conference Institute’s 14th Annual Conference on Sanctions Enforcement and Compliance on April 28–29. The event brought together industry leaders, policy makers and the best of the sanctions bar to discuss key issues affecting the practice area. Sullivan & Cromwell served as a supporting sponsor for the conference.
Eric joined Ambassador Nathan A. Sales, the former acting Under Secretary of State for Civilian Security, Democracy and Human Rights for a discussion, “Navigating Competing Regulations While Staying Compliant,” focusing on China, ongoing issues with Canada regarding Cuba, and U.K. vs EU challenges.
Jamie participated in a discussion with Joshua White, global sanctions lead at Stripe, and Howie Wachtel, director of global sanctions policy and strategy at Paypal. The panel, “New Sanctions Developments to Watch and Keep on Your Radar,” looked at emerging issues in the sanctions space, including the new U.S. sanctions with respect to Burma/Myanmar, and the increasing global focus on using sanctions to address human rights abuses and corruption.
