On May 7, 2017, S&C hosted an alumni reception in New York City. More than 700 alumni, S&C lawyers and guests gathered to reconnect at the Mandarin Oriental. S&C chairman Joe Shenker was joined by the Honorable Barrington "Danny" Parker of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and Joe Tsai, co-founder of Alibaba—both S&C alumni—for a discussion on the role of the legal profession in today's society and its future.

In addition to the panel, S&C's technological innovations were also on display, including live introductions to the Firm's latest blogs and websites that cover M&A, tax, labor and employment, FCPA and financial services.
 


In October 2017, S&C hosted three Asia alumni reunions:
  • a Beijing alumni reception on October 15,
  • a Tokyo 30th anniversary and alumni reception on October 18, and
  • a Hong Kong 25th anniversary and alumni dinner on October 19, which were attended by 60 Asia-based alumni.
S&C chairman Joe Shenker made remarks at the three receptions, and partner Frank Aquila gave an update on M&A trends and activities at the alumni dinner in Hong Kong. Chun Wei, managing partner of the Hong Kong office, hosted and made remarks at the alumni events in Beijing and Hong Kong. Keiji Hatano hosted and made remarks at the alumni reception in Tokyo.

At the Hong Kong alumni dinner, partners and senior lawyers from the Beijing, Brussels, Hong Kong, London, Melbourne, New York, Sydney, Tokyo and Washington, D.C. offices also joined the events, including Garth Bray, Michael DeSombre, Keiji Hatano, Renata Hesse, Wally Jones, Ching-Yang Lin, Jamie Logie, Jingjing Lu, Kay Ian Ng, Juan Rodriguez, Michael Rosenthal, Gwen Wong, Alan Zhang and Yeqing Zheng.

The Hong Kong 25th anniversary reception, held at the Mandarin Oriental, was attended by 110 industry leaders, client representatives and S&C lawyers and alumni. Chun Wei gave remarks at the reception on the history and development of the Hong Kong office over the past 25 years. Joe Shenker also addressed the audience with remarks on the importance of S&C Hong Kong as part of the global firm. S&C’s Asia Pacific based partners attended the event and were joined by partners from other offices, including Frank Aquila, Renata Hesse, Juan Rodriguez and Michael Rosenthal.
