ACLU of Southern California Honors S&C

June 16, 2011

On June 16, the ACLU Foundation of Southern California awarded its Equal Justice Advocacy Award to S&C at its 17th Annual Law Luncheon in Los Angeles. The event was attended by approximately 450 people, including Ninth Circuit judges and district court judges from California’s Central District. In recognizing the lawyers at S&C, the ACLU singled out their work in Franco-Gonzalez, et al. v. Holder. et al., part of S&C’s efforts to represent a class of indigent immigrants with mental health problems who are facing immigration proceedings in which the government required they represent themselves. The ACLU honored all of the lawyers on the S&C team, including Ms. Aliyasova, Ms. Buckley, Ms. Stamenova-Dancheva, Mr. Lichaa, Ms. Lawson-Remer and Mr. Robinson. Mr. Steinberg, who leads the S&C team, accepted the honor on behalf of the Firm.
