Frank Aquila and United Rentals’ Jenne Britell Author Article Regarding the Possible Consequences of Recent Corporate Governance Reform Proposals

July 2010

An article co-written by Mr. Aquila and United Rentals' chair Ms. Britell was recently published in the Directors & Boards' annual "Year in Governance" issue. In the article, Mr. Aquila and Ms. Britell point out that while corporate governance reform proposals have proliferated since the start of the financial crisis, many of these proposals could have the effect of limiting positive director behavior while diminishing the overall effectiveness of boards of directors. The authors believe that corporate governance reforms should be focused on enhancing the ability of boards to add value to the companies that they oversee, which will in turn result in increased shareholder value and economic growth.
