S&C Launches London Trainee Solicitor Program

November 2010

S&C has launched a trainee solicitor program in the London office. The initial intake of trainee solicitors is planned for autumn 2013, with annual intakes to follow. The program, along with a first-ever presence at on-campus recruitment fairs in the U.K., is intended to attract the best law and non-law graduates seeking a long-term career with the Firm.

The U.K.'s Lawyer and Legal Week both ran articles about the program on October 28. “Offering an English law training program is something we have been working towards for some time and we are confident that it will be one of the best of its kind,” Mr. Perry, who is helping to manage the initiative, told Legal Week. “It is a real demonstration of our commitment to London and we are looking for graduates seeking a long-term career with the firm.”

Mr. Logie, who is also managing the trainee program, told The Lawyer, “We think our track record will help us hire the best students. Our selling point is that we give our junior lawyers top experience as we don't run deals with big teams, enabling us therefore to give our lawyers lots of responsibility.”

The program will be divided into four six-month training seats covering at least three practice areas, as required by the United Kingdom's Solicitors Regulation Authority. Trainees will be supervised by a partner who is a leader in his or her field, as well as other senior lawyers.

S&C's London office is also launching its first U.K. Summer Vacation Scheme in 2011 for students interested in joining the firm as a trainee. During the two-week scheme, students will shadow a partner or senior lawyer and will have opportunities to meet S&C employees.

In addition to Mr. Perry and Mr. Logie, trainee recruitment manager Kirsten Davies is also managing the initiative.
