December 16, 2011

In a December 16 article titled, “Five Firms Grab Roles as United Rentals Buys RSC Holdings for $4.2 Billion,” The Am Law Daily highlighted S&C's representation of United Rentals, Inc., the largest equipment rental company in the world, in its entering into a definitive agreement to acquire RSC Holdings, Inc. for $4.2 billion. Am Law outlined the players involved in the deal, including Mr. Aquila, Mr. Sampas and Mr. McKnight, as well as Mr. Estes, Mr. Creamer, Mr. Trevino, Mr. Soussloff, Mr. Holley and Mr. Mousavi in Palo Alto. The article referenced The New York Times' Dealbook blog in reporting that the transaction is United Rentals' largest deal in its 14-year history and will effectively create “a North American equipment rental behemoth.” Am Law also highlighted S&C's long-standing relationship with United Rentals, which began in 2008 after a failed buyout by Cerberus Capital Management. In explaining the company's recent success, Mr. Aquila said, “It [United Rentals] has basically rebuilt itself from the bottom up and that has put it in the position to do a deal of this size now. The new management team really did everything right."
