New York Law Journal Publishes Obituary on Maite Aquino

June 13, 2011

In its June 13 issue, the New York Law Journal published an obituary for litigation partner Maite Aquino, who died on June 4 at the age of 42 of breast cancer. The NYLJ reported, “Ms. Aquino joined Sullivan & Cromwell in 1994, where she represented clients in disputes involving antitrust and intellectual property claims. A partner since 2003, Ms. Aquino more recently represented financial institutions under investigation by Congress, the Securities and Exchange Commission, and the U.S. Justice Department in the wake of the financial crisis.” The publication also noted that Ms. Aquino devoted many hours to pro bono service, efforts for which she received a Thurgood Marshall Award from the New York City Bar. Mr. Cohen spoke to the paper about Ms. Aquino’s “intellect, ability to think on her feet and commitment to her work.” He said, “You have partners who are really good lawyers and partners who are really good partners and Maite was both.”
