Mark Menting and William Torchiana Named Dealmakers of the Year by The American Lawyer

Messrs. Menting and Torchiana were named among The American Lawyer's 2013 Dealmakers of the Year. They were recognized for advising ING Groep on a series of worldwide asset sales amounting to more than $15 billion. The representations featured the biggest U.S. bank deal since 2009 – a $9 billion sale of the group's online banking service, ING Direct USA, to Capital One Financial Corp. They also advised ING on the C$3.1 billion sale of ING Direct Canada to Scotiabank – the largest deal in Canada's banking sector for more than a decade – and the $3.8 billion sale of its Latin American insurance and investment management operations to Colombian financial conglomerate Grupo de Inversiones Suramericana SA.

The American Lawyer hailed the success of the representations, noting that ING “remains well on track to complete its restructuring ahead of the E.U.-imposed deadlines.”
