Bob DeLaMater Quoted in Latin Lawyer Article on Usiminas Acquisition

December 6, 2011

In a December 6 article titled, “Usiminas Deal was Hard Work and High Stakes, Say Lawyers,” the Latin Lawyer highlighted S&C's work representing Nippon Steel, the largest shareholder of Usinas Siderurgicas de Minas Gerais S.A. (Usiminas), in the acquisition by affiliates of Ternium S.A. of a 27 percent stake in Usiminas and the negotiation of a new agreement among certain shareholders of Usiminas. In an effort to execute the deal quickly, the lawyers involved worked around the clock on the complex, multiparty transaction. Mr. DeLaMater agreed that the multijurisdictional nature of the arrangement only added to the challenges, but noted that the deal exemplifies the interest from Asian countries to invest in Latin America. “It's an example of the trend for growing cooperation,” he said. The article also highlighted S&C's long-standing relationship with Nippon and previous work with Ternium.
