Rodge Cohen and Michael Wiseman Discuss Globalization and Banking and Finance Law in U.S. News & World Report - Best Lawyers Best Law Firms

September 14, 2010

The inaugural issue of U.S. News & World Report/Best Lawyers Best Law Firms, available now online and in print in October, featured “A Potentially Seismic Shift: A Conversation with Mr. Cohen and Mr. Wiseman.” The interview focused on how economic globalization has affected the practice of banking and finance law in the United States and abroad, as well as the implications of the financial crisis for banking law. The crisis, Mr. Wiseman said, means there is “potential for a much more fundamental change in the financial services business – the availability of credit, the way the economies function, and, frankly, the competitive role of the United States – than we saw even with the reforms that were undertaken in the 1930s.” Mr. Cohen added, “there is a potentially seismic shift. By definition, you don't see those except once a generation, if that. It could all balance out, but you need to be prepared if it doesn't.”
