On March 3, Mr. Cohen was featured in a half-hour interview with Canada's Business News Network. During the interview, Mr. Cohen discussed the current state of the U.S. banking system, which he said was “definitely safer than before the crisis” of 2008. He pointed to Tier 1 common ratios, which he said are approximately double what they were pre-crash, and better liquidity. He also dismissed the idea that the new, more concentrated banking landscape meant a less stable one. “I really believe strongly that one of the things that Dodd-Frank did best was to come up with a well-thought through resolution system for the largest institutions,” Mr. Cohen said. He added that he “would be very surprised if we didn't see dividend increases this year, assuming that there is not a change in what appears to be a credit cycle rebound.”
