    Stephanie Wheeler is a partner in the Firm’s Litigation Group. Her multidisciplinary practice focuses on crisis management, working at the intersection of white-collar and regulatory investigations and related complex commercial litigation. Ms. Wheeler has decades of experience advising some of the world’s largest financial institutions on their highest stakes matters from the 2008 financial crisis to the recent cryptocurrency market collapse. She has defended prominent companies, such as Allianz, Goldman Sachs and FTX in government investigations and related litigation. Ms. Wheeler’s clients rely on her to guide them through every aspect of a crisis and to manage multiple work streams seamlessly.

    Ms. Wheeler has extensive experience obtaining global settlements in white-collar and regulatory investigations involving a range of regulators, including the Department of Justice, the Securities and Exchange Commission, the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, the Federal Reserve, the New York Department of Financial Services, FINRA, the state attorneys general, the Department of Labor, and non-U.S. authorities and regulators. She also handles the civil litigation arising out of those investigations, including securities, commodities, bankruptcy and ERISA litigation.

    As a partner in charge of the Firm’s professional development for litigation associates, Ms. Wheeler has devoted almost two decades to developing new, innovative training programs for associates to provide them opportunities to hone their deposition, oral argument and trial skills, among others.

    She is a member of the Federal Bar Council and the Women’s White Collar Defense Association.

    • FTX and affiliated entities as Debtors’ counsel in numerous criminal and regulatory investigations and in civil avoidance actions brought in the bankruptcy court.

    • Allianz in the global resolution of parallel investigations by the DOJ and SEC relating to the Structured Alpha hedge funds managed by AllianzGI US and in settling more than 20 ERISA and securities fraud actions and putative class actions filed by investors in the Southern District of New York.

    • Goldman Sachs in reaching a global resolution of multiple criminal and regulatory investigations in jurisdictions around the world relating to an alleged multi-billion dollar money laundering and corruption scheme involving the Malaysia sovereign development company, 1MDB, and senior public officials in Malaysia and the United Arab Emirates, including a deferred prosecution agreement with the DOJ and resolutions with the SEC, Federal Reserve, New York DFS, the government of Malaysia, and regulators in the UK, Hong Kong and Singapore.

    • Goldman Sachs in multiple matters arising out of the 2008 financial crisis, including a global settlement with the DOJ and state and federal agencies resolving claims regarding Goldman Sachs’ structuring, underwriting and sales of residential mortgage-backed securities and resolution of dozens of related civil litigations.
    • Goldman Sachs in reaching a global resolution of regulatory investigations brought by the SEC, FINRA and 50 State Attorneys General relating to alleged conflicts of interest between equity research analysts and investment banking and in numerous related class action litigations.

    Other Selected Significant Matters

    • The Boeing Company in obtaining a well-publicized dismissal of a putative securities fraud class action related to delays in the first flight of the company’s 787 Dreamliner aircraft.
    • The board of directors of JPMorgan Chase in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, achieving affirmance of the dismissal of a shareholder derivative action that alleged breach of fiduciary duty relating to Enron, Worldcom, IPO allocations, alleged research analyst conflicts of interest, mutual fund market timing and other regulatory investigations that resulted in monetary settlements.
    • Microsoft Corporation, as a trial lawyer, in the landmark antitrust trials brought by the U.S. Department of Justice and 19 states and the District of Columbia from 1998 to 2002. Also represented Microsoft in a related antitrust investigation before the European Commission.
    • A clearing broker as lead counsel in market timing investigations by the SEC, NASD and the New York Attorney General.
    • A financial institution in an internal investigation relating to inadvertent disclosure of Confidential Supervisory Information.
    • A financial institution that received TARP funds in connection with numerous inquiries from various government agencies, SIGTARP and Congress concerning executive compensation and bonuses.
    • A financial institution in connection with an inquiry by the U.S. Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations relating to tax shelter transactions.
    • Multiple companies in insider trading investigations.
