    Jonathan S. Carter is a partner in the Firm’s Litigation Group. A versatile litigator, Mr. Carter’s practice focuses on complex commercial litigation and regulatory investigations, with a particular focus on antitrust and market manipulation cases.  Mr. Carter has successfully represented global companies and financial institutions in connection with some of the largest antitrust class actions of the past decade.  He has also advised leading companies in navigating high-stakes regulatory investigations, including investigations by the U.S. Department of Justice, the Securities and Exchange Commission, and the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission, achieving landmark resolutions.

    Mr. Carter serves on the Firm’s Diversity Committee, having chaired the Firm’s LGBTQ+ Network, and also serves as chair of the Firm’s Pro Bono Committee. 

    Prior to joining the Firm, Mr. Carter served as a law clerk to Judge Susan L. Carney of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and to Judge Stefan R. Underhill of the U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut.

    Mr. Carter was recognized as a Future Star by Benchmark Litigation (2023-2025) and was recognized by Lawdragon’s 500 X - The Next Generation (2023 - 2024).

    • Royal Bank of Canada, in obtaining dismissal of a putative class action alleging antitrust violations relating to the trading of UK gilt bonds.
    • Goldman Sachs, in obtaining dismissal with prejudice of a putative class action alleging antitrust violations related to trading in U.S. Treasuries, and in defending that dismissal on appeal, which resulted in a precedent-setting decision by the Second Circuit. 
    • Barclays, in litigating and resolving favorably numerous class actions and individual actions related to alleged manipulation of benchmark interest rates, including USD LIBOR, Sterling LIBOR, Euribor, ISDAFIX, the Singapore Interbank Offered Rate (“SIBOR”) and the Singapore Swap Offer Rate (“SOR”).
    • National Australia Bank, in obtaining dismissal and a favorable settlement of a putative class action alleging antitrust, CEA and RICO violations related to the Australian Bank Bill Swap Reference Rate (“BBSW”).

    • JPMorgan Chase & Co., in reaching coordinated resolutions with the DOJ, CFTC, and SEC, resolving investigations of alleged “spoofing” in the precious metals and U.S. treasuries markets.
    • JPMorgan Chase & Co., in obtaining dismissal of a shareholder derivative action arising out of JPMorgan’s spoofing-related regulatory resolutions, and arguing the matter on appeal. 
    • Barclays, in litigating a putative antitrust class action alleging manipulation in the market for credit default swaps.
    • Goldman Sachs, in achieving a highly-favorable settlement in an antitrust class action alleging manipulation in the platinum and palladium futures market. 
    • JPMorgan Chase & Co., in obtaining dismissal of a putative class action alleging securities fraud in connection with resolutions of spoofing-related regulatory investigations. 
    • Goldman Sachs, in obtaining dismissal of M&A-related litigation regarding an abandoned joint sale. 
    • Royal Bank of Canada, in obtaining dismissal with prejudice of a putative class action alleging antitrust violations related to sovereign, supranational and agency bonds, and in obtaining affirmance on appeal.  
    • Goldman Sachs, in obtaining dismissal of a putative class action alleging antitrust violations related to trading in corporate bonds.
    • Barclays, in obtaining a favorable settlement of a putative class action alleging antitrust violations related to Mexican government bonds.
    • Goldman Sachs, in obtaining favorable settlements in class and individual actions alleging antitrust violations related to trading in agency bonds. 
    • Barclays, in obtaining a favorable settlement of complex litigation involving residential mortgage-backed securities.
    • Barclays, in successfully resolving employment-related whistleblower, breach of contract and indemnification claims brought by three former derivatives traders seeking payment of legal fees in connection with their U.K. criminal trial regarding alleged USD LIBOR-related conduct.
    • Barclays, in obtaining a favorable settlement of a securities fraud action relating to regulatory resolutions regarding USD LIBOR.
