United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) Working Group on Arbitration

October 2011
Vienna, Austria

During the first week of October, Mr. Neuhaus attended a session of the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) Working Group on Arbitration in Vienna, Austria as one of two private sector advisers to the U.S. Delegation. The Working Group is preparing a set of UNCITRAL rules that will serve as a complement to the very successful UNCITRAL Arbitration Rules. The new rules will address “transparency” in investor-state arbitration, which refers to the extent to which investor-state arbitral proceedings are open or available to the public and how third parties, such as non-governmental organizations (NGOs), can participate as amici in those proceedings.
