S&C Wins ‘Bankruptcy Firm of the Year’ and Jim Bromley Wins ‘Bankruptcy Litigator of the Year’ at Benchmark Litigation 2026 U.S. Awards

S&C won ‘Bankruptcy Firm of the Year’ and Jim Bromley won ‘Bankruptcy Litigator of the Year’ at Benchmark Litigation’s 2026 U.S. Awards. The awards recognize “the country’s most distinguished litigators and their firms for their exemplary work over the past 12 months.” Nominees are selected after extensive interviews with litigators, dispute-resolution specialists and clients.

In recent high-profile, complex bankruptcy proceedings, S&C advised:

• FTX Trading in obtaining court approval of its $14+ billion Chapter 11 reorganization plan and emerging from Chapter 11 just over two years after its collapse and bankruptcy filing. U.S. Bankruptcy Judge John Dorsey described this as a “model case for how to deal with a very complex Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceeding”;
• SVB Financial Group, the former parent company of Silicon Valley Bank, in obtaining confirmation of its Chapter 11 plan less than two years after its filing following the third-largest bank failure in U.S. history and defeating more than $944 million in claims in an adversary proceeding;
• The Office of the Commissioner of Major League Baseball in the Chapter 11 proceedings of Diamond Sports, which highlighted the challenges facing the traditional linear telecast model for regional sports; and
• Kidde-Fenwal in the first-ever Chapter 11 case aiming to resolve national mass tort liability related to “forever chemicals,” per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). 

Jim Bromley, Co-Head of S&C’s Global Restructuring Practice, has led some of the most complex restructurings in history, including those of FTX and SVB Financial Group, and advised MLB on the Chapter 11 proceedings of Diamond Sports Group. Jim also recently advised Sphere Entertainment on the out-of-court restructuring of more than $800 million of debt of its subsidiary MSGN Holding.
