Robert Giuffra Jr., Co-Chair of Sullivan & Cromwell, has been named a finalist for The American Lawyer’s “Litigator of the Year.”
A fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyer and International Academy of Trial Lawyers, Bob is among the few leaders of a major law firm who continues to practice at the highest level. As Co-Chair, he has helped guide S&C through transformative growth—including the expansion of our London office and Technology practice—while strengthening our litigation practice, preserving our culture of mentorship and maintaining stability during a period of significant industry change.
Over the past year, Bob persuaded the Second Circuit to vacate an $18 billion judgment against the Republic of Argentina—the largest judgment ever entered in the Southern District of New York. President Milei called the victory “historic, unthinkable, the greatest legal achievement in national history.” Bob secured precedent-setting Sixth Circuit rulings for FirstEnergy protecting the confidentiality of corporate internal investigations and reversing class certification in multibillion-dollar securities litigation. He also represented Gautam Adani in obtaining the dismissal of a federal criminal securities and wire fraud case and favorable resolutions of parallel SEC and OFAC matters. He won a New York state court ruling for Volkswagen making it more difficult for shareholders to sue non-U.S. companies in New York. And he obtained a New York State appellate ruling for Goldman Sachs that reinforces important protections for deal advisers accused of fraud.
