Pete Jones and Julia Malkina have been named to Bloomberg Law’s “They’ve Got Next: The 40 Under 40” report highlighting exceptional lawyers at law firms, companies, nonprofit organizations and government agencies.
Pete is a partner in S&C’s Technology M&A and Private Equity groups and has played an integral role in establishing both S&C’s Technology M&A and Digital Infrastructure practices. He has advised xAI on its $250 billion acquisition by SpaceX, the largest acquisition involving a private target in history; xAI and X on their $113 billion merger, leading negotiations between the two companies and their controlling shareholder, Elon Musk; and Elon Musk on his $44 billion acquisition of Twitter, in which Pete led the $8 billion+ equity raise from more than 40 investors.

Julia is Co-Chair of S&C’s Securities Litigation Group. She has built a portfolio of first-of-their-kind defense wins in prominent cases at the leading edge of securities litigation that have redefined the law. These matters include securing a defense trial win for Rock Holdings, in the first-ever Brophy breach-of-fiduciary-duty through insider-trading claim litigated to verdict; a landmark victory for Goldman Sachs in which she helped persuade the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit to reverse class certification in a $13 billion case and establish important guardrails to the “inflation-maintenance” theory of securities fraud; and defeating class certification in securities and insider trading litigation against Rock Holdings, the first-ever Sixth Circuit defense victory on “price impact” at the class-certification stage.
