PALO ALTO (MARCH 11, 2025) – Sullivan & Cromwell LLP announced today that Kyle Mach, former Deputy Director of the U.S. Federal Trade Commission’s Bureau of Competition, will join the firm as partner in its Palo Alto office. A skilled trial lawyer who has handled large and complicated antitrust litigation and regulatory matters, Mr. Mach brings FTC and private practice experience that will strengthen S&C’s extensive capabilities in antitrust litigation and M&A matters.
“Kyle is an outstanding lawyer, and we’re confident his deep knowledge of antitrust law and the regulatory process will greatly benefit our clients,” said Sullivan & Cromwell Co-Chairs Robert Giuffra and Scott Miller. “His addition positions S&C to continue to be the ‘go-to’ firm for companies navigating increasingly complex regulatory issues, especially in technology and life sciences where the FTC plays a central role.”
“I’m looking forward to working with the fantastic team at S&C, and providing our clients with the best possible cross-disciplinary advice as thorny issues in the antitrust arena continue to arise,” said Mr. Mach.
At the FTC, Mr. Mach’s leadership team supervised more than 400 lawyers, and he personally oversaw three of the four sections of the Bureau of Competition that evaluate mergers and acquisitions. Mr. Mach and his teams reviewed transactions representing billions of dollars in value, successfully litigated several merger challenges, and negotiated a number of important consent decrees. He also has substantial experience in private practice, for example, securing merger clearances for Intel’s $9 billion sale of its solid-state drive and wafer businesses to SK Hynix.
Antitrust has been an important part of S&C’s litigation and corporate practices for decades. In addition to antitrust litigation, S&C excels in handling large and complicated multijurisdictional merger clearances, including before the FTC and the DOJ. The firm also advises on cartel investigations and other criminal antitrust matters.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Kyle to our team,” said Technology Group Co-Head Mike Ringler and Palo Alto Office Managing Partner Sarah Payne. “S&C has a long history of providing the most sophisticated antitrust advice. Kyle will enhance the strength of our team for our expanding roster of clients both in California and globally. For our larger technology and life sciences clients, Kyle’s experience in getting transactions cleared by antitrust regulators, and, if necessary, successfully litigating challenges to transactions by those regulators, will be invaluable.”
Mr. Mach earned his J.D., magna cum laude and Order of the Coif, from the Carey Law School at the University of Pennsylvania, and a bachelor’s degree in Economics and Political Science from the Pacific Lutheran University. He clerked for Judge Ronald Gould on the Ninth Circuit.
