Sullivan & Cromwell matters earned two top honors at the 2024 LatinFinance “Deals of the Year” Awards, which recognize stand-out transactions in Latin America and the Caribbean.
In the “Restructuring Deal of the Year,” S&C advised BHP Brasil in Samarco Mineração’s restructuring of $4.8 billion in debt, which resolved an eight-year dispute. Samarco completed the judicial proceedings in Brazil in conjunction with Chapter 15 proceedings in the United States. BHP Brasil was a 50 percent shareholder and one of the largest creditors. The S&C team was led by Jim Bromley, John Estes and Sergio Galvis.
In the “Sovereign Bond of the Year,” S&C advised the underwriters to the United Mexican States’ $7.5 billion offering of global bonds, which was Mexico’s largest SEC-registered issuance. The notes are listed on the Luxembourg Stock Exchange and admitted to trading on the Euro MTF Market of the Luxembourg Stock Exchange. The S&C team was led by Chris Mann and Alan Fishman.
