S&C was named a Tax “Practice Group of the Year” by Law360. In an interview with the publication, Isaac Wheeler, Co-Head of S&C’s Tax Practice, said the success of the practice is due to its lawyers’ ability to advise clients on a wide range of complex tax matters. “We feel that we are strong in all areas of the tax law, across all industries, across all types of deals, as well as in the advisory and controversy space,” he said.
The firm has recently advised Boeing on its $8.3 billion pending acquisition of Spirit AeroSystems, Discover in its $35.3 billion pending merger with Capital One, Baxter in the $3.8 billion sale of its kidney care business (Vantive), and RedBird in the deal to form “New Paramount.”
As further evidence of the practice’s range, Co-Head Davis Wang pointed to S&C’s tax work for Yuga Labs, a web lifestyle and media company, in its acquisition of the digital art platform PROOF. “[The transaction] had to deal with cryptocurrencies [and] crypto assets, and it really shows how Sullivan & Cromwell has a presence in this new and emerging area,” he said.
S&C was named a “Firm of the Year” for its showing in these awards, with eight practices selected.
