HONG KONG (MAY 11, 2023) – Sullivan & Cromwell LLP announced today that Jacqueline Wenchen Tang will be joining the firm as a partner, further strengthening our leading financing and restructuring capabilities for clients across the Asia-Pacific region and around the world. Ms. Tang will be based in the firm’s Hong Kong office, which recently celebrated its 30th anniversary.
At Sullivan & Cromwell, Ms. Tang will advise corporate, credit fund, private equity and financial institution clients on a broad range of restructuring and financing matters. As one of the leading strategists for distressed situations in China and elsewhere in Asia, Ms. Tang has extensive experience navigating complex, cross-border debt restructurings and liability management transactions. She also has broad experience in debt capital markets, including high-yield bond offerings in the U.S. and Hong Kong.
“We are delighted to welcome Jacqueline to S&C,” said Robert Giuffra and Scott Miller, co-chairs of Sullivan & Cromwell. “She is a versatile and highly respected restructuring and capital markets lawyer, with deep knowledge of the Asian credit and restructuring markets. With her experience in both Hong Kong and New York, her addition will allow us to build on the strengths of our lawyers in the Asia-Pacific region and globally.”
“Cross-border finance and restructuring are key areas for our clients,” said Kay Ian Ng, managing partner of the firm’s Hong Kong office. “We recently welcomed back to the region our partners, Chris Beatty, who is focusing on private credit transactions across Asia from his base in Sydney, and Michael DeSombre, who is focusing on M&A and strategic transactions, primarily in Korea and Southeast Asia. Jacqueline’s complementary capabilities in restructuring, private credit and capital markets will strengthen our ability to support our clients in the Asia-Pacific region and around the world.”
Ms. Tang commented, “Sullivan & Cromwell lawyers are well known for their ability to work creatively to address issues across a company’s capital structure in a complex restructuring, special situation or financing. I look forward to leveraging my experience for the firm’s clients and working with partners in its Asia-Pacific, U.S. and European offices.”
Ms. Tang received her J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center, her LL.M. from Case Western Reserve University, and her LL.B. from Shanghai University Law School. She is qualified to practice in Hong Kong and New York and is fluent in English, Mandarin and Shanghainese. She was cited as a “Rising Star Partner” in the 2023 IFLR 1000.
