S&C advised BHP Group Limited in a $28 billion deal that The Australasian Lawyer named its “Equity Deal of the Year” at the Australasian Law Awards 2023. In this complex transaction, BHP combined its BHP Petroleum business with Australian oil and gas company Woodside through an all-stock merger. The combination created a global top 10 independent energy company by production and the largest energy company listed on the Australian Securities Exchange.
In addition, Wally Jones, who heads the Firm’s Australia practice, was named an Excellence Awardee for “Australian Dealmaker of the Year” for his work on deals including BHP’s $28 billion deal transferring oil and gas portfolio to Woodside, Goodman Group’s sustainability-linked bond offering and Australia and New Zealand Banking Group Limited’s (ANZ) A$3.5 billion equity capital raising, the largest in Australia in 2022. S&C was also recognized as an Excellence Awardee for “Equity Deal of the Year,” for its work on ANZ’s A$3.5 billion equity raising.
S&C this year celebrated its 40th year in Australia.
