S&C Tops M&A Rankings for Global, U.S. and European Dealmaking for Q1 2023

In the first quarter of 2023, Sullivan & Cromwell led all law firm advisers in announced global, U.S. and European M&A deals and ranked among the top five law firms in the APAC region (excluding Japan) , according to Bloomberg. The Firm advised on announced deals totaling $105 billion worldwide, representing a 19 percent market share, according to Bloomberg. In a down market for M&A, in which announced deals have dropped 44 percent globally, S&C’s market share has increased 8.5 percent over this time last year, based on data from Refinitiv.

S&C also ranked first in the following categories, according to Bloomberg.

• Global announced deals ($105 billion)
• Global announced deals as principals ($61 billion)
• Global private equity deals ($39.5 billion)
• U.S. announced deals ($98.6 billion)
• U.S. private equity deals ($39.5 billion)
• Europe announced deals ($16.3 billion)

To date in 2023, S&C has advised:

• Seagen in its $43 billion pending acquisition by Pfizer
• Credit Suisse in the sale of a significant portion of its securitized products group to Apollo Affiliates
• New York Community Bancorp subsidiary Flagstar Bank in the acquisition of assets and liabilities from Signature Bridge Bank
• J.P. Morgan on its acquisition of Aumni
• AcBel Polytech in a deal to acquire ABB’s power conversion division
