Melissa Sawyer, S&C’s Global Head of M&A, appeared on the premiere of Bloomberg TV’s new segment, Bloomberg Deals, to help launch the program and offer insight into trends across the M&A markets. She discussed indicators to watch, such as an increase in volume of IPOs and a friendlier regulatory environment in the U.S., as key signs that the deals sector may be strengthening into 2026.
“I think volume is going to be the real marker,” she said. “Once we see sponsors feel like they can go back into the market and exit their portfolio companies … I think it will trigger an outpouring of M&A as well.”
When asked about the current regulatory environment compared to last year’s, she noted “[a] lot of the change is just at the level of rhetoric, but even toning down the rhetoric has helped a lot to restore confidence in companies that are considering transacting.”
