Melissa Sawyer, S&C’s Global Co-Head of M&A, discussed the Firm’s top M&A ranking for Q1 and broader deal market trends with Bloomberg Law, noting that “[e]verything seems to be firing on all cylinders right now, and the pipeline is really full.”
“We’re seeing deals of all sizes, including lots of strategics buying up new elements for their portfolio,” she said. “Not all transformational, one-in-a-lifetime kinds of deals, but there’s evidence of people pushing into new strategies and trying new things, which is good.”
Melissa also observed a recent pullback by private equity in M&A transactions, noting that when the Firm “… ran sell-side auction processes, it was common for us to put together almost like a staple financing package that included private credit as part of the financing. It was almost an assumption that the financing for a deal would include a private credit component, and I’m not seeing that right now at all. It’s not even coming up on deals.”
