Werner Ahlers, Co-Head of S&C’s Latin America Practice, represented S&C in a roundtable discussion with Latin Lawyer’s “International Elite,” a group of the Latin American region’s eight leading law firms as selected by Latin Lawyer. The roundtable covered a variety of subjects including investment opportunities in Latin America, big firms’ approaches to leveraging AI and strategies to continue building and maintaining relationships in Latin America.
In the discussion, Werner discussed his perspective on how the Latin American region impacts the rest of the world. “One of the key strengths of the region is not only in the diversification of risks and opportunities represented by markets in each individual country, but the fact that the mix of sectors ripe for foreign investor interest has expanded in the past decade,” he said. “[S&C’s] experience and history of success in Latin America keeps us relevant in the local market because of the unique skills needed to collaborate on some of the most complex matters in the region, including for these companies.”
When asked about AI, he noted that “while we recognise that the use of generative AI is likely to transform aspects of the legal practice over the next 5-10 years, the core set of skills necessary to continue to act as trusted advisers to our clients, such as strong communication, attention to detail and creative strategic thinking, will still be vitally important and are at the core of our generalist practice and training approach.”
