Melissa Sawyer, S&C’s Global Head of M&A, spoke with the Financial Times on the state of M&A in the second quarter of 2023. While the first quarter saw the slowest start to the year in a decade, dealmakers have seen activity pick up.
In order to get deals done, dealmakers have been taking nontraditional approaches to transactions. “We’re seeing hostile bids, unsolicited [bids], topping bids, carve-outs, spin-offs, you name it,” said Melissa. “People are just having to get more creative in how they do things.”
