Since the October 7, 2023, terror attacks in Israel, S&C has been representing pro bono client the Raoul Wallenberg Centre for Human Rights in providing legal advocacy on behalf of hostages. S&C’s work has included supporting RWCHR in:
- representing families of hostages and other victims in connection with criminal investigations by the United States Department of Justice, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Office of the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, including facilitating interviews of eyewitnesses and assisting in the production of evidence; and
- evaluating the imposition of targeted sanctions against Hamas and terrorist officials, as well as funders and enablers.
There have been significant recent developments in this regard, including DOJ charges against six senior Hamas leaders, the joint U.S.-Canadian designation of a sham fundraising organization as a terrorist entity, imposition of sanctions in North America and Europe, and applications by the ICC prosecutor for arrest warrants against key Hamas figures.
The S&C team is led by partner Sharon Cohen Levin, special counsel Andrew DeFilippis, and associates Aaron Levine and Samantha Rosenthal. More than 30 S&C lawyers and legal assistants have contributed 5,700 hours to this matter.
