“A View From the Brink” (Harvard Law Bulletin)

Winter 2010

In its winter 2010 issue, Harvard Law Bulletin featured Mr. Cohen, a Harvard Law School alumnus, in the article, “A View From the Brink.” The article provided a look back at the financial crisis of 2008-09, noting three trends that Mr. Cohen believes “set the stage” for the U.S. banking system that exists today: consolidation, the elimination of barriers separating banks from other financial services and innovation within the banking industry. Looking to the future, he said that federal financial reform is necessary “to have the ability to deal with problems, but also to help restore confidence.” The story also provided highlights from Mr. Cohen’s legal career, which began in the 1970s when he first joined Sullivan & Cromwell as an associate.
