Robert Sacks is managing partner of S&C’s Los Angeles office. He has extensive experience in complex business disputes of all types, including advising clients how to avoid them. He regularly advises clients in the areas of securities and other class action litigation, mergers and acquisitions, antitrust, contractual arrangements of all types, the obligations of corporate officers and directors, SEC and internal corporate investigations and intellectual property.
He appears in federal and state courts throughout the United States, in administrative proceedings before the Securities and Exchange Commission, in arbitrations and other types of private dispute resolution proceedings, and before the Department of Justice and Federal Trade Commission in connection with antitrust investigations and merger reviews.
In the past several years, Mr. Sacks has tried multiple cases, including three jury trials and a recent trial in Delaware Chancery Court. He also has handled various appeals, including in the Ninth, Second and Federal Circuits, California Court of Appeals and Delaware Supreme Court.

- J2 Global in an internal investigation arising out of a whistle-blower complaint
- MRV Communications in class and derivative litigation relating to a pending restatement
- Cablevision Systems in a class action challenging the bundling of cable programming
- EnCana Corporation in multiple antitrust actions involving alleged manipulation of natural gas prices
- Softbank in class action litigation relating to Global Crossing’s failure
- LoneStar Funds in a dispute over its obligation to acquire Accredited Home Lenders
- Philips Electronics in a multi-national arbitration involving the development and delivery of a satellite broadcast system to Malaysia
- JPMorgan Chase in litigation arising out of its acquisition of the assets of Washington Mutual Bank from the FDIC
- Amylin in expedited litigation relating to a proxy contest
- Hilton Hotels in litigation relating to its acquisition by Blackstone
- Mitsubishi UFG in litigation relating to its acquisition of UnionBanCal
- Goldman Sachs in class action litigation relating to the sale of Solectron to Flextronics
Professional Activities and Community Involvement
Mr. Sacks is a member of the board of directors of the Constitutional Rights Foundation and the Western Justice Center Foundation, and a former member of the board of the Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles.
