John Evangelakos joined the Firm in 1986 and has been a partner since 1994. Although Mr. Evangelakos has led transactions in a wide variety of industries, much of his work in recent years has been in the financial services sector. A representative list of recent transactions he has worked on includes the following:
- Archipelago Holdings, in its merger with The New York Stock Exchange to form NYSE Group and in its acquisition of PCX Holdings, the parent company of the Pacific Exchange. He also represented Archipelago in numerous rounds of financing, including the investment by General Atlantic, and its merger with REDIBook.
- IntercontinentalExchange in its acquisitions of the New York Board of Trade and Creditex, and its offer to acquire the Chicago Board of Trade.
- Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, in its strategic investment in Morgan Stanley.
- The independent directors of Sovereign Bancorp in that company's acquisition by Banco Santander.
- The independent directors of CastlePoint Holdings Company in that company's acquisition by Tower Group.
- Citadel Investment Group in its investment in Direct Edge ECN.
- Goldman Sachs in numerous acquisitions and investments, including Epoch Partners, The Ayco Company, and BTIG.
- Citigroup, in its role as financial advisor to NYSE Group in connection with its merger of equals with Euronext.
- Whitehall Capital in connection with the acquisition of Kerzner International by a private equity consortium that included the Kerzner family.
- The Frist family in connection with the acquisition of HCA, Inc. by a private equity consortium that included the Frist family.
- Interbrew, in its acquisition of AmBev to form InBev, the world's largest brewer, and in the related unwinding of Interbrew's joint venture with FEMSA in Mexico and the U.S.
- Vornado in the sale to the Yucaipa Companies of a minority interest in AmeriCold Realty Trust.
- The independent directors of Erie Indemnity Company in the going-private acquisition of Erie Family Life Insurance Company.
Mr. Evangelakos was resident in the Firm's Hong Kong office between 1994 and 1997.
