Be stimulated by diversity
Along with our commitment to superior legal service, Sullivan & Cromwell is equally dedicated to fostering a diverse and inclusive work environment. Not only do we believe that this is the right thing to do, but we also believe that diversity is vital to recruiting the best lawyers and to providing the highest level of service to our clients. Our culture and policies value the unique abilities and perspectives of every individual, and support diversity in its broadest sense.
Recently, S&C was recognized by a number of important constituencies for our strong commitment to diversity:
- In 2008 and 2009 MultiCultural Law magazine recognized S&C's diversity programs in its annual ranking of law firms. S&C was listed among the top 100 law firms for diversity, top 100 law firms for women and as one of the top 50 law firms for diverse associates.
- S&C has once again earned the top rating with a score of 100 percent in the 2010 Corporate Equality Index (CEI) and Best Places to Work Survey. This annual survey, conducted by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation, rates major U.S. businesses on their treatment of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) employees and consumers. The CEI rated 590 businesses, evaluating LGBT-related policies and practices including non-discrimination policies and domestic partner benefits. The Firm's efforts in ensuring LGBT equality in each of the survey's main criteria earned it the prestigious 100 percent ranking.
- In 2008, 2009 and 2010 S&C was ranked by Vault as one of the “Best 20 Law Firms for LGBT Diversity”
- S&C retained “one of the 20 coveted spots” on the American Lawyer’s seventh annual A-List. The A-List represents the 200 law firms that make up the “nation’s elite – the law firms that are best at balancing a thriving business with their obligations to the profession.”
- The Project for Attorney Retention (PAR) listed S&C among the 23 of the 100 firms surveyed that had a new partner class that was at least 40% female. (S&C’s 2009 partner class was 50% female.) According to PAR, S&C had the highest average percentage of new women partners between 2005 and 2009 (39%).
- S&C was selected by Working Mother magazine and Flex-Time Lawyers LLC as one of the 2008 Best Law Firms for Women in the United States.
