On November 15, Mr. Giuffra was profiled by Law360 for being named to its 2011 MVP list for Securities. According to Law360, “Giuffra saw success this year not only defeating claims, but also preserving them…He’s not only interested in what the law is, but what the law should be.” In September, Mr. Giuffra helped secure a ruling for UBS in a securities class action brought against them by investors. In December 2010, Mr. Giuffra confirmed the dismissal of claims brought against Porsche by 39 hedge funds for more than $2.5 billion. The article also highlighted Mr. Giuffra’s successful defense of UBS and other large banks in their bid to sustain a suit, which claimed that MBIA fraudulently pulled $5 billion from its insurance unit in 2009. Mr. Giuffra said, “Handling a very complex case is like playing chess, and you can’t get caught up in one move at a time, you have to look at the big picture and you have to be prepared to think a little bit outside the box.”
