Long recognized as a leading firm in Latin American M&A, in 2009 Sullivan & Cromwell received the inaugural Chambers Latin America Corporate/M&A Award (International Counsel). The award is based on the publisher’s research for the next edition of Chambers Latin America, reflecting notable achievements over 12 months, including significant work and excellence in client service. In addition, S&C was selected as one of Latin America’s leading business law firms in the 2012 edition of the Latin Lawyer 250.

S&C remains at the forefront of all legal developments in the region and regularly handles groundbreaking transactions for Latin America’s largest commercial enterprises. This includes our work for LAN Airlines in its market-altering combination with TAM. In 2010, this included our work for client Minera Esperanza (Chile) and its owners, Antofagasta plc (U.K.) and Marubeni Corporation (Japan), in connection with financing for the $2.3 billion Esperanza project, the largest-ever mining project financing in Latin America and a deal recognized by The Wall Street Journal for its innovative financing structure in a turbulent financial climate. The deal was also named “Americas Mining Deal of the Year” by Project Finance International.
