On August 27, Ms. Friedman was a speaker at a workshop titled, “LGBT Pro Bono at the Highest Echelons of Private Practice,” at the National LGBT Bar Association’s Annual Lavender Law Career Fair and Conference in Miami Beach. The workshop focused on S&C’s efforts in the case of Cole v. Arkansas as a pro bono model for LGBT legal work. Ms. Friedman argued the motion in that case, which resulted in the striking down as unconstitutional of an Arkansas law banning cohabitating couples from adopting or fostering children.
